Plans and company limits
What each plan includes, company limits, and how the cumulative free limit works.
Plan overview
PenaltyProof has four plans: Free, Starter, Pro, and Practice. Free and paid plans differ on two axes: the number of companies you can monitor, and the alert cadence (overdue-only on Free; advance warnings at 30/14/7 days on paid plans).
Free plan
Free accounts can monitor up to 5 companies. Alerts fire only when a deadline is overdue — after it has passed with no filing recorded. HMRC obligation monitoring (VAT, Corporation Tax, RTI, etc.) is not available on the Free plan.
Starter plan
Starter accounts can monitor up to 50 companies. Advance alerts fire at 30, 14, and 7 days before every Companies House deadline. HMRC obligation monitoring is available and must be configured per company at /manage.
Pro plan
Pro accounts have no company limit. All advance-alert and HMRC obligation features are included. Secondary recipients (additional email addresses per alert) are available on Pro.
Practice plan
The Practice plan is designed for larger accountancy firms. It includes seat management (multiple team members under one subscription), consolidated billing, and all Pro features. Contact us for pricing.
The cumulative free limit
The free plan limit of 5 companies is cumulative: once you have added and removed companies, the active count is what matters. Removing a company frees the slot immediately — you can add a different company in its place.
Common questions
Can I upgrade mid-month?
Yes. Upgrading takes effect immediately; the billing is prorated for the remainder of the current billing period.
What happens if I hit the company limit?
Adding a company beyond the plan limit is blocked with an error message. You can remove existing companies to free up slots, or upgrade to a higher plan.
