Marking a filing as done

How to suppress remaining alerts for a deadline once you have filed.

What mark-as-filed does

Marking a filing as done records a local flag in PenaltyProof. It suppresses any future advance-warning alerts for that specific deadline. It does not communicate anything to HMRC or Companies House — you still need to file the actual return through the relevant service.

How to mark a filing as done

From the dashboard, find the company and click the filing row. Use the 'Mark as filed' button. You will be asked to confirm the action. The flag is immediately recorded and the deadline row is updated in the dashboard.

What happens after you mark as filed

The deadline is moved to a 'filed' state in the dashboard. No further advance-warning alerts fire for that deadline. The next deadline for the same obligation (e.g. next year's confirmation statement) is not affected — alerts for the next deadline continue on schedule.

Undoing a mark-as-filed

If you marked a filing as done by mistake, open the company detail and use the 'Unmark' option on the relevant deadline row. This restores normal alert behaviour for that deadline.

Common questions

Does mark-as-filed update Companies House?

No. The flag is local to your PenaltyProof account. Companies House shows the filing as outstanding until the actual return is submitted through WebFiling or your practice management software.

Will I still get an overdue alert after marking as filed?

No. Marking a deadline as done suppresses both advance and overdue alerts for that specific deadline.
